Lord, I Need You

Written by Joseph T. Lee

Matt Maher wrote the song, “Lord, I Need You.” The Refrain lyrics are:

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour, I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Oh, how these words resonate with me. As much as I try to stay steady in Christ, I find myself failing when I try to do it on my own. I fail miserably because I personally do not have the power to do it. I find myself falling into sin, even if the sin is considered very little, or accepted as usual behavior by the world.

When we sin, as followers of Christ Jesus, if we do not feel guilty or sorrowful, then I would say that we have a serious problem in our faith walk. Billy Graham once said, “The closer we get to Christ, the more sinful we will feel.” Isn’t that the truth. The closer we get to Christ, the more sinful we feel because we know that when we sin, even the smallest sin, the Holy Spirit convicts us of that sin, if not immediately, but almost immediately.

The words “Lord, I need you, oh, I need you. Every hour I need you” is truth for me. I know that I cannot stay steady in my faith walk without constantly praying to Jesus. My thoughts, although dealing with other things, should always incorporate Jesus with all my decision making. I must pray multiple times a day, even while at work, to call out on the name of the Lord to help me get through my day. And while I am at home and away from the hustle and bustle of the day, I should consider Christ Jesus when making decisions to watch TV, read, or conversations with loved ones. Even when doing housework or yardwork, I must say a little prayer and give Christ Jesus praise.

If we proclaim to be Christ followers, then we must admit that we need Jesus every hour. We need Him to get through this life. We need Jesus, in everything that we do. We need Him when getting up in the morning, to going to work, to speaking with clients, to speaking with employees, to going home and speaking with our spouses and children. Every hour we need Jesus.

I cannot imagine life without Jesus. Can you? Are you struggling? Do you know where to turn for help? Jesus is waiting for you to turn to Him. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)” Jesus also said, “Come to me all who are heavy laden and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Paraphrased Matthew 11:28). Jesus is waiting to have a relationship with you.

Do not delay in your decision. Ask Him into your heart. Believe in Jesus and He will save you. Ask forgiveness of your sins and repent, meaning turn away from those sins. I pray that you will come to Christ today.
