What Will Your Obituary Say About Your Life?

Have you ever thought about what you have done over the entire course of your life? Most recently, I was looking at the birthday list that popped up in Facebook and then saw a friend who has passed away. When looking at their profile of Facebook, there were family pictures, evidence of a fun life.

In one’s life, you could be the life of the party, telling jokes, and enjoying making people laugh. Some people might have enjoyed their lives cooking, volunteering with the rescue squad, volunteer fire department, or auxiliary police.

Others may have lived for traveling, going to the beach, or fishing. Some had a love for music, singing karaoke, or playing golf. Some have spent their lives playing computer games.

All these activities are done out of enjoyment for ourselves, but what evidences do we have in our life that showed that we were the hands and feet of Jesus? How have our lives made a difference for the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

When I was a police officer, I could have made a difference for the cause of Christ, but I failed miserably. Instead of sharing my faith, I got into the wrong crowd and lived a life of sin. I spent almost 10 years policing and could have made a tremendous impact for the gospel of Christ, but that did not happen.

It wasn’t until later in life that I came to the true salvation of knowing Jesus and I turned to Him completely. I repented of my sin and begged forgiveness for my sin filled life. Since that true day of conversion, I have had the hunger for the Word of God and a hunger to tell others about what Jesus has done for me.

When I die, instead of describing what I enjoyed in life, I would want my obituary to read that Joseph T. Lee wanted all his friends, family, and acquaintances to come to know the true and saving grace of forgiveness, only found through Jesus Christ.

Friends, time is short. For some of us, there may not be a tomorrow on this earth as a living and breathing human being. Why continue to put off coming to Him? Jesus wants a personal relationship with all.

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

In Romans 6:23, it reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Look in John 3:3, “Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Why did Jesus come to die?

In John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” One cannot get to Heaven unless they know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Look at Romans 10:9-11, “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

In 2 Corinthians 5:15, “and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”

The final verse is from Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Jesus stands at your heart’s door and knocks. He wants a relationship with you. Once you accept Him as your personal Savior, He will minister to you through His Holy Spirit.

Don’t put this off any further. Please pray this prayer.

Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. I believe that you are the Son of God and that you came into the world to save it. I believe you died on the cross to save me of my sins. I believe that you rose from the grave on the third day. I ask you to come into my heart and forgive me from all the sins and trespasses I have ever committed. Thank you, Jesus, for saving my soul. I pray this in Jesus Name! Amen!

If you have prayed that prayer, please write to me and tell me that you did. You can write us at Marketplace Evangelism Ministries Inc., PO Box 1778, Ashland, VA 23005. I would like to send you a Bible so that you can develop your relationship with the Lord. The best way to grow in Christianity is to read the Bible and get involved in a local church.
