Brought to Light
Written by Joseph T Lee for Marketplace Evangelism Ministries Inc.
Most recently, at a Coldplay concert, an adulterous affair was brought to light where a married CEO and his HR Director were spotlighted on a “Kiss-Cam” in the stadium of where the concert took place. When caught, he was cradling her from behind and she was holding his arms. The CEO ducked down out of sight and the HR Director turned around quickly so that her face would not be seen by the video camera. Then they both disappeared.
These two were married but not to each other. Their infidelity was made very public, front and center. This reminded me of Adam and Eve. When they ate the forbidden fruit, they hid themselves in the garden and covered theirselves up with leaves because their eyes were opened to their nakedness. This was the first sin of humanity.
The fact that Adam and Eve hid themselves from God showed that they knew that their disobedience was wrong. They sinned against God. The same goes for the CEO and the HR Director. They were caught and tried to hide themselves because of their infidelity against their own spouses.
In Luke 8:17, it says, “For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” Their affair has come to light in a huge way. Their sin was placed on display for the world to see. You cannot hide your sins from God! He sees all things.
One of the Ten Commandments says in Exodus 20:14, “You shall not commit adultery.”
Look at Matthew 5:27-28, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Their sexual immorality has been brought to light. Many might say that the producers of the concert should not have invaded their privacy, but in public, there is no expectation of privacy. Cameras are everywhere.
If one does not want their sin publicized, then they should not commit adultery and other sins. The CEO and the HR Director not only sinned against God, but they sinned against their own spouses. They sinned against their children and family. They also sinned against their own bodies.
Look at 1 Corinthians 6:18, “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.”
Now, I do not think these two are followers of Christ. Most likely they are not based on the fact that they were willing to cheat on their spouses. But they must repent and turn from this wickedness. They should break the relationship off and go back to their spouses and seek forgiveness and reconciliation.
It is my prayer that they seek reconciliation with their spouses and repent from their sins and adultery. I pray that they will come to the saving grace and knowledge of Jesus and that they will make Him Lord of their life! Please join me in praying for them and the spouses and family they have crushed and hurt!
