Do You Have Spiritual Leprosy?

We all have leprosy in our spirits.

In Luke 17:11-19, Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem and He passed between Samaria and Galilee. When He entered a village, there were ten men with a serious skin disease who met Him. They had leprosy. People who are stricken with leprosy have to statin to talk because it also affects the vocal cords. They stood at a distance and raised their voices saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Jesus saw and heard them and said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And while they were going, they were healed.

Only one out of the ten saw that he was healed and he immediately returned to Jesus, fell down at His feet, thanking Him, and praising God! He gave all the glory to God! He was praising God with a very loud voice. The man was a Samaritan who was a foreigner and was not Jewish. His faith healed him and Jesus told him to get up and go on his way.

But what happened to the other nine? Were they not thankful for their healing? They did not return to Christ Jesus to give thanks and glory to God for their healing! How many people are healed, blessed with miracles, who then go on their own way and never give thanks to God who granted their blessing?

Thankfulness is important to God. Thankfulness is a decision.

Thankfulness is a decision based on realty.

  1. When you are thankfully living, you will see it. 17:14
  2. You will say it. 17:15
  3. You will show it. 17:16. He fell at Jesus feet.
  4. You will share it. 17:19

Luke 17:11-19
11 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
