Are You Under a Spiritual Attack?

Are You Under a Spiritual Attack?

Were you aware that the United States is quickly becoming known as a Post-Christian nation? Yes, it is true. “Post-Christian” describes a society that has been shaped by Christianity but increasingly moves away from its teachings.

People may still celebrate Christmas, identify as Christians, or respect Jesus, while no longer accepting the Bible as their authority for belief and conduct. Faith becomes something viewed as a private preference rather than a foundation for life.

With all of the occurring spiritual attacks, which are running rampant because people no longer are calling on God for help, people are grasping for help from even occult practices.

In the book, “21 Weapons of the Prayer Warrior,” authored by Dave Earley, he discusses what has happened and what Satan and his demons are doing on a battlefield. It seems that professing Christians do not know how to fight this spiritual war.

Dave states, “Just as spiritual war was waged two thousand years ago during the days of Paul, it is waged today. Some who have been overseas to developing nations have seen spiritual warfare fought at very open and intense levels. But what we must understand is that the unseen war is not just occurring in Africa, Asia, Europe, or South America. It is happening here and now in North America. As the western world becomes increasingly post-Christian, we see more and more evidence that the Enemy is intensifying his efforts.” – (21 Weapons of the Prayer Warrior, copyright 2026, p. 17.)

The enemy is intensifying his efforts because Christian faith has less influence on North America’s culture, values, and everyday life than it once did. The reason for this is that people are falling away from the Church, embracing their own ideals, not praying, not reading their Bibles, and not making our Heavenly Father a priority.

Perhaps the reason you are constantly under a spiritual attack is because you have opened yourself up to them by dabbling in the dark arts including but not limited to New Age practices. These generally involve seeking spiritual enlightenment, healing, or power through a mixture of beliefs outside biblical Christianity. The occult involves seeking hidden spiritual knowledge or power through practices such as divination, magic, or communicating with spirits. The two can overlap, but they are not identical.

Examples commonly associated with them include:

* Astrology and horoscopes: Looking to the stars or zodiac signs for guidance about your life or future.

* Tarot cards, palm reading, and fortune-telling: Seeking hidden knowledge or predictions through divination.

* Psychics, mediums, and séances: Seeking messages from spirits or people who have died.

* Ouija boards: Attempting to communicate with spirits.

* Channeling and “spirit guides”: Inviting spiritual beings to deliver messages or direct your life. Sending positive or negative vibes to people when they ask for prayer.

* Witchcraft, spells, and ritual magic: Performing rituals intended to influence events through supernatural power.

* Crystal healing: Believing stones possess spiritual energies that heal, protect, or attract blessings.

* New Age energy practices: Beliefs about manipulating a universal spiritual energy or aligning chakras for spiritual healing.

* Manifestation and the “law of attraction”: Teaching that thoughts, words, or vibrations can draw desired outcomes into existence.

* Belief in personal divinity: Teaching that you are divine or can awaken a “god within.”

These are some of the main things that can spawn demonic attacks. Others can be unrepentant sin, secret sin, and unresolved anger and bitterness. Paul connects his warning about lingering anger with “nor give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:26–27, NKJV).

Spiritual warfare is real. Repent from these sins you are involved with and truly turn to Christ Jesus.

Fight spiritual warfare by standing firm in Christ, relying on His strength, and putting on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10–18). Paul reminds us that people are not our ultimate enemy.

1. Stand in truth. Know Scripture and test spiritual claims against it. Jesus answered temptation with God’s Word (Matthew 4:1–11).

2. Walk in righteousness. Confess sin, turn from it, and obey God. Address bitterness, dishonesty, and other sinful habits rather than allowing them to grow.

3. Remain grounded in the gospel. Remember that your hope rests in Christ’s death and resurrection. Be ready to share His message of Salvation.

4. Hold firmly to faith. Trust God’s character and promises when fear, temptation, or accusations arise. Your feelings do not determine His faithfulness.

5. Remember your salvation. Look to what Christ has accomplished. Romans 8:1 assures those in Christ that they are free from condemnation.

6. Pray consistently. Ask for wisdom, protection, strength, and help resisting temptation. Pray for other believers, too.

7. Stay connected to faithful believers. Seek prayer, encouragement, and accountability from a trusted pastor and mature followers of Christ.

James 4:7 gives this instruction: “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (NKJV)

You do not need special formulas or dramatic confrontations. The biblical pattern is submission to God, steadfast faith, obedience, Scripture, and prayer. Difficulties are not automatically evidence of a demonic attack.

You can pray simply: “Father, strengthen me in Christ. Help me recognize deception, resist temptation, and obey Your Word. Guard my mind and heart, and help me stand faithfully today. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Stay steady in Christ!
